This is a beautiful, vintage 4-panel Asian folding screen (Byobu style) featuring an elegant hand-painted "Bird and Flower" (Kacho-ga) composition. This stunning piece depicts stylized songbirds perched and in flight among gnarled pine branches and delicate winter blossoms.
The prominent calligraphy on the left reads "山雀報喜" (Shānquè bào xǐ), which translates to "Songbirds Announcing Good Fortune." The smaller cursive script next to it dates the painting to the winter of 1974 (the Year of the Wood Tiger) and is signed by the artist Dan Ting (旦亭).
Because it has been carefully wall-mounted rather than resting on the floor, it has been spared the typical wear and tear common for pieces of this age. It is the perfect statement piece for Mid-Century Modern, Hollywood Regency, Boho, or Japandi interior design styles. The clips for hanging it on the wall are included in the price.
