Rather than defining the container, I chose to let it dissolve into a soft illusion of color, allowing the flowers to become the focus.

A mass of hand-rendered chamomile blooms drifts across the composition in crisp whites and buttery yellows. Their scattered rhythm creates the feeling of a garden at the height of summer, where flowers spill naturally over the edge of a favorite planter.

The foliage, fern-like greenery, is drawn in delicate layers, with an airy lightness. The foliage almost disappears into the monochromatic background, creating depth and giving the painting a soft, botanical elegance.

The color palette is intentionally limited to shades of green punctuated only by white and yellow, light filtering through a summer garden.

This painting is meant to bring the feeling of an endless summer. It feels perfectly at home in a coastal cottage, lake house, garden room, or sun-filled breakfast nook, where its fresh palette and airy composition create an atmosphere of quiet relaxation. Susan Havens is a New Orleans–based artist who holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. With over 27 years of experience as a graphic designer, art director, and creative director, her work reflects a refined understanding of composition, color, and visual storytelling.
Her artwork is held in private collections and has been placed in residences, private clubs, and hospitality environments by interior designers, as well as featured at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans. See less
