This is an antique triptych dressing mirror in the Aesthetic Movement taste, with a faux-bamboo styled bronze frame and small scrolled brass legs that swing out to prop the mirror upright on a tabletop. Two of the three hinged leaves carry a decorative japanned panel on cardboard, a red-ground scene with gilt figures, a crane, flowering branches, and a cartouche of Japanese-style characters, while all three leaves hold mirror glass.
Construction and design notes:
- Faux-bamboo styled bronze/gilt-metal frame with hinge-jointed leaves
- Three mirror-glass panels, each approximately 11 in x 8 in
- Two of the three leaves carry a red-ground japanned decorative panel on cardboard with gilt figures, a crane, flowering branches, and a cartouche of Japanese-style characters
- Small scrolled brass legs swing out from the sides to prop the mirror upright for tabletop use
Flat measurements: closed, approximately 12 in x 15 in x 2 in (30.5 x 38.1 x 5.1 cm). Each mirror/panel leaf approximately 11 in x 8 in (27.9 x 20.3 cm). Overall width fully open: approximately 30 in (76.2 cm).
This piece suits a collector of Aesthetic Movement or Japonisme decorative objects, a prop or staging use, or a dealer who wants a display piece with real, visible age rather than a pristine reproduction.
Origin: likely France or England. Era: late 19th century, Aesthetic Movement / Japonisme style (stylistic estimate). Materials: gilt-bronze/brass frame, mirror glass, japanned decoration on cardboard.

There is wear and loss to the japanned gilt decoration on both decorated panels, with areas rubbed through , most noticeable across the upper right portion of the design on each panel. All three mirror plates show the even, speckled foxing typical of old mirror glass, which reads as age rather than damage. The frame and hinges are structurally sound, and the mirror opens and stands normally on its prop legs. less
