Batik is the process where the artist uses wax to block out where the dye or paint does not want to be applied. Once the color is added, the wax is removed and then reapplied for each additional color or detail in the painting. This is a long and tedious process. This is signed at the edge of the women by listed New Mexico artist Alice Valdez (1939-2024). Has a reference number 84 on the verso. The batik painting image inside the mat measures 21 inches wide and 16 inches tall. It sits behind glass in a hardwood frame. The frame measures 26 inches wide and 21 inches tall. See less
