Sorrento artists make this technique look so easy but it is actually painstakingly intricate workmanship. Intarsio is the art of wood inlay where miniature pieces of various kinds of wood from cherry to oak to mahogany and more, are lovingly and carefully assembled to produce beautiful images, whether portraiture or landscape. These images fit in beautifully with most decor as they are organic and neutral although they can fully occupy any given area due to the artistry. This picture was produced by artisans from the Unione Artigiani Intarsio Sorrentino.
