The Craft: Each basket exemplifies the rib-type construction that defined the region's folk basketry. Hand-rived white oak splits form the weavers; white oak hoops form the rim and handle; white oak carved ribs provide structure and visual distinction.
The Collection: The larger example is an egg or kidney basket with an unusual converging-rib configuration, arched handle, and functional grace (4.5" H × 6.25" W). The miniature, at 2.75" tall, features an arched handle with X-form supports—a charming scaled companion.
Character: Both retain their dry, natural patina—the warm honey tones of aged white oak. Fair condition with minor wear and age-consistent losses that speak to authentic provenance and use.
