Vintage European Folk Art Hand Carved Crucifix Sculpture
Hand carved European folk art crucifix depicting Christ on the cross, notable for the crown of thorns carved integrally into the head of the figure. At the upper section of the cross is a small plaque inscribed “JNKZ.” While the exact meaning remains unidentified, it may represent a localized or phonetic rendering related to INRI, the traditional Latin inscription Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum often found on crucifix plaques. The underside of the sculpture bears the number 1469, likely a workshop, inventory, or collector’s reference. The piece is unsigned.
