An exceptional Swedish Grace alabaster pendant lamp, dating from the 1920s–1930s, embodying the quiet sophistication and sculptural restraint that came to define Scandinavian decorative arts during the interwar period.
The hand-carved alabaster bowl displays extraordinary natural veining in warm tones of honey, amber, cream and soft charcoal grey — each mineral trace creating an organic landscape within the stone itself. The subtly scalloped rim introduces a refined architectural rhythm, balancing softness with geometric precision in a manner deeply connected to the Swedish Grace movement.
Suspended by richly braided silk cords with decorative knots and an elegant tassel detail, the lamp possesses an almost ceremonial presence. Every element feels carefully considered — from the proportions of the alabaster body to the textile suspension, reinforcing the luxurious yet restrained aesthetic associated with Nordic Art Deco interiors of the era.
When illuminated, the alabaster transforms dramatically. The stone begins to glow from within, diffusing a warm atmospheric light that highlights the depth and translucency of the material. The effect is less that of a conventional lamp and more akin to a suspended sculpture radiating warmth through natural stone.
The overall drop from the bottom of the lamp to the ceiling canopy measures approximately 29 inches, giving the piece a graceful suspended presence while remaining highly versatile for both intimate and architectural interiors.
Pieces of this quality are increasingly rare — particularly examples preserving their original textile suspension and such expressive alabaster patterns.
A timeless object where craftsmanship, materiality and atmosphere exist in complete harmony.
