Masterfully hand-carved, this extraordinary piece embodies the exuberance of the Baroque period, where the image of the sun symbolized divine light, power, and eternal glory. The composition features a magnificent radiating sun with finely carved undulating rays, carefully designed to create the illusion of movement and shimmering light. The dynamic arrangement of the rays gives the sculpture an exceptional sense of vitality, making it appear as if the sun itself is illuminating the surrounding space. A particularly rare feature of this piece is the presence of two hand-carved wooden clouds, positioned on either side of the sun. These elements are removable, allowing the composition to be displayed in different configurations while enhancing its theatrical Baroque character. Executed entirely in carved wood and finished with original gilding, the sculpture has developed a beautiful antique patina over more than two centuries. The quality of the carving, together with its monumental scale, suggests it was originally created for an important ecclesiastical or aristocratic setting, possibly as part of an altarpiece or large decorative architectural ensemble. This is a unique work, combining outstanding craftsmanship, dramatic visual impact, and exceptional decorative presence. It is perfectly suited for display in a grand entrance hall, gallery, luxury residence, ecclesiastical collection, interior design project, or museum-quality collection of Spanish Baroque art. The sculpture presents minor losses, consistent with its age, which do not detract from its remarkable aesthetic or historical value. Please refer to the photographs for details.
