The top is constructed from wide … Read more A solid pine plank-top coffee table by Hans Frydendal for Christian IV, Denmark, 1970s. The top is constructed from wide knotty pine planks, the grain running in tight parallel lines across the full width — darkening to amber at the knots.

The base is trestle-form. Squared legs are joined by a low double stretcher, locked at each intersection by a proud, rounded-shouldered through-tenon peg. Joinery as structure; structure as surface.
The construction carries no veneers, no applied ornament. Material and method are the statement. The pine has deepened with age into a range of ochre and amber tones, the grain pronounced and consistent throughout.

The low stance and architectural stretcher system place this table firmly within the Nordic workshop tradition — Frydendal working within a lineage that valued the honesty of materials above formal elaboration.
