The work depicts two finely draped figures in an affectionate pose, set upon a rocky base. The adult female figure serves as the visual and structural focal point, while the young girl leans against her right side, creating a sinuous line that guides the viewer’s eye from bottom to top. The main figure wears a classically inspired tunic (chiton) cinched beneath the bust, while with her left hand she gracefully lifts the hem of her skirt, revealing her left foot, which is stepped forward. The face is idealized, with symmetrical and serene features, framed by hair gathered by a ribbon at the nape of the neck. The secondary figure is depicted in a dynamic pose, leaning affectionately toward the mother figure, and is partially draped in a thin cloth. Condition: Excellent. Provenance: 19th-century France.
