Italian lighting from the 1970s often combined architectural forms with exceptional glassmaking. This large wall lamp, attributed to Venini, is a beautiful example of that approach, where a simple silhouette is enriched by the depth and clarity of Murano glass.
Design
The lamp is composed of a substantial curved shade in thick clear Murano glass, mounted on a concealed metal frame. The glass is moulded with a precise relief of rounded square lenses, creating a rhythmic grid across the entire surface. Rather than relying on decoration, the design lets the material take centre stage. The sculpted pattern captures and refracts the light, producing a soft, even glow while adding depth and subtle reflections. When illuminated, the glass appears almost crystalline, while unlit it reveals the remarkable precision of its moulded construction.
Its generous scale gives the fixture a strong architectural presence, making it suitable for both residential and commercial interiors. Mounted individually it creates a refined vertical accent, while multiple examples can be arranged in a series to create an impressive wall composition. The restrained form allows it to complement both mid-century and contemporary spaces with ease.
The lamp is attributed to Venini and was produced in Italy during the 1970s. It remains a fine example of the period, when Murano manufacturers increasingly explored sculptural forms through thick moulded glass and clean geometric lines.
Condition
The lamp is in very good vintage condition with only minor signs of age and use consistent with its age. It is fitted with two E27 light sockets and is ready for installation. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
