Claro Walnut is the most desired of all walnut species. Claro Walnut is almost exclusive to Northern California. General John Bidwell, a pioneer, planted the first Claro Walnut, grafted with Bastogne Walnut tree orchards around Chico, in the early 1850's. It is the orchards that are preserving the Claro Walnut species as wild fires ravage the forests all over California.
