The Louis XVI télescopique et acajou tilt-top guéridon is a refined example of late 18th-century French furniture, celebrated for its elegant proportions and ingenious functionality. Crafted in richly figured mahogany (acajou), the circular white marble top is framed by a delicate pierced brass gallery, a hallmark of the Louis XVI style that combines decorative refinement with practical purpose. The tilt-top mechanism allows the marble surface to be raised vertically when not in use, while the telescopic pedestal enables the table's height to be adjusted, reflecting the period's fascination with mechanical innovation and versatility.
The underside of the body bears the stamped mark "G. IACOB," identifying the celebrated Parisian master ébéniste Georges Jacob (1739–1814), one of the foremost cabinetmakers of the Louis XVI period. An additional stamp is present beneath the tabletop, although it is now illegible. As for the Jacob stamp, I believe it is from a later date. H. 32 in., H. The table remains structurally sound overall, with no significant losses observed. The underside of the body is stamped "G. IACOB," and an additional, though now illegible, stamp is present beneath the tabletop. Overall, this guéridon is well preserved, retaining its elegant appearance and historic character, with condition consistent with age and normal use. less
