Round Louis XVI-style dining table made of cherry wood, crafted in the 19th century. The clearly structured apron, the fluted, tapered legs, and the subtly placed bronze fittings create a calmly proportioned, harmonious overall impression. Historical Context: The Louis XVI style was widely revived in the 19th century as part of the Historicism movement, reviving the classical design language of the late 18th century. Round tables of this type were found in the dining and living rooms of middle-class households and served as a central surface for communal meals or as a center table in the drawing-room. The extension mechanism met the practical need to enlarge the table surface when required without abandoning the closed, round shape. Features: Gilded bronze lyre-shaped fittings at the upper leg joints. Originally designed as an extendable table; the central extension is no longer present. Design: The design follows the Louis XVI vocabulary: straight, tapered legs with vertical fluting, a clearly defined apron with framed panels, and sparingly used, symmetrically placed bronze fittings. The vertical lines of the legs are in balanced proportion to the round tabletop, creating a calm, evenly structured overall form. Function: Originally, the table was designed as an extendable table and could be enlarged via a central extension. This central extension is no longer present, so the table is currently used as a fixed-size round table.
Dimensions: Height 110 cm, Diameter 76 cm. Material and Condition: Material: Cherry wood, fittings in bronze/brass, feet with metal cleats. Good overall condition commensurate with age, with some minor signs of wear. These signs of age and use are part of its historical character.
