A set of four French dining chairs made of solid oak, produced in the French Art Deco style between 1920 and 1925. The backrests feature a clearly structured, shield-shaped panel with a floral carving at the top, whose serene symmetry is formally echoed by the fluted, tapered front legs. Historical context: Individual chairs of this type were a standard feature in middle-class dining and living rooms during the 1920s. French Art Deco replaced the flowing forms of Art Nouveau with more flat, clearly defined furniture, though it often retained a simplified floral carving as a decorative element. Solid oak was a common material for seating, as it combined durability for everyday use with an attractive surface. Matching sets of chairs were usually made as part of a dining room suite and served to furnish the dining area uniformly.
Carved floral shield motif with rose and volute pattern at the top of the backrest – Decorative brass nailing around the seat edges. Design: Stylistically, these chairs are in the French Art Deco style of the early 1920s. Characteristic features include the clearly defined, shield-shaped back panel, the flat carved decoration, and the fluted, tapered front legs. The design combines a restrained floral motif with a straight, calmly proportioned basic form, ensuring that ornament and construction remain harmonious. Dimensions: Height 88 cm × Width 43 cm × Depth 40 cm, Seat height 45 cm. Material and Condition: Solid oak, seats upholstered in green cotton velvet and finished with brass nails. Used, age-appropriate condition with visible patina; the upholstery is original. Signs of age and use are part of the historical character.
