This Tulip dining suite is an absolutely iconic and globally celebrated masterpiece of post-war Mid-Century Modern design. This exclusive five-piece set, comprising one dining table, two chairs, and two stools, was envisioned by the legendary Finnish-American architect and designer Eero Saarinen for the prestigious Knoll brand. Saarinen designed the collection in 1957, leading to the official introduction of the revolutionary Tulip line in 1958. The architect set out to purge the "ugly, confusing, unrestful world" he observed underneath conventional tables and chairs—a visual clutter he famously termed the "slum of legs." His intensive five-year design investigation resulted in a revolutionary pedestal base that permanently reshaped the history of modern furniture.
The entire dining set has undergone a comprehensive professional restoration and is fully functional. The high-grade structural components made from cast aluminum and fiberglass (laminate) were meticulously inspected, and the original white finish was professionally cleaned and revived to its pristine luster. Furthermore, the seating pads for both the chairs and the stools have been newly and expertly upholstered in a premium textile fabric according to the exact original design specifications. The vibrant coral-red upholstery creates a breathtaking, crisp contrast with the fluid, snow-white silhouettes that mimic the organic stem of a blooming tulip.
Acquiring a complete, beautifully restored five-piece Tulip dining suite represents an extraordinary opportunity for prominent collectors and design enthusiasts alike. This ensemble is a timeless blue-chip investment in design history that continues to hold monumental aesthetic power. It will effortlessly serve as the defining centerpiece of any contemporary dining room, minimalist interior, or high-end residential loft. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker.
