The elderly, bearded man, likely the deceased, wears a himation (a greek cloak). Author: as indicated by the inscription on the base, the work is signed by alxenor of naxos, a sculptor from the cyclades. Style: it represents a transition between the archaic and severe styles. It is famous for the way alxenor managed to capture the depth and foreshortening of the male body within a relatively flat marble slab. Place of discovery: it was discovered in orchomenus, boeotia.
