Basket making is an ancient and humble craft, but in the hands of a skilled weaver, a simple reed basket can become a truly beautiful work of art. This original fishing basket was made in China long ago, and the artisan's mastery is evident, having been passed down from generation to generation.
The antique basket is formed to a squat, rounded shape, woven of river reeds and twine cording with a dark red lacquer finish. Worn from time and use, the basket remains in wonderful condition with only minor losses and has developed an antique patina that only time can achieve.
