This antique lattice window panel from the early 20th century likely originated in a northern Chinese home with neutral and balanced interiors. Both functional and decorative, lattice windows allowed for fresh air and light to flow into a room while still maintaining privacy.
Set within a square frame, this lattice panel has a repeating puzzle-like design created by carefully interlocking original wooden pieces to form a dizzying geometric pattern. For further decoration, the lattice is simply carved with flower blossoms and painted to a sunny shade of marigold-yellow, now faded from years of use.
