Beautifully modeled with a … Read more A monumental cast bronze figurative sculpture depicting a crouching sumo wrestler, signed and dated "YURI 05." Beautifully modeled with a rich brown patina and natural verdigris, the sculpture balances strength with warmth. Its softly rounded form and expressive features give the wrestler an endearing, approachable character while maintaining a commanding presence.

Acquired directly from the artist's close friend, who identified the sculptor as Yuri Kritchever (1951–2013), a Ukrainian-born artist who lived and worked in Tamalpais Valley (Mill Valley), California. Independent research confirms Kritchever was an active visual artist by the early 1980s through U.S. Copyright Office records. A nearly identical casting has previously appeared at a respected American auction house under a tentative attribution to another artist, while the provenance accompanying this sculpture supports attribution to Yuri Kritchever, an under-documented Bay Area sculptor whose surviving works rarely appear on the market.
