A set of four Hagi ware (萩焼) yunomi tea cups by Yuka Matsuo, Japan. Each measures 6.5 cm high × 8.5 cm in diameter (2.6 × 3.3 in).
The cups are glazed milk-white over a band of soft wisteria purple, with wild flowers hand-painted in white and red above a scalloped snow-line of pale glaze. The glaze carries the fine crackle — kannyū (貫入) — characteristic of Hagi ware. with use, tea settles into the crackle and gradually darkens it, the quality known in Japan as the seven changes of Hagi. Each foot ring is left in unglazed red clay and cut with the notch, kirikōdai (切高台), traditional to the Hagi kilns.
Each cup was thrown, glazed, and painted by hand. No two are identical.
