Entirely worked in metal with a silver-plated finish over what appears to be solid brass, this remarkable object is a highly collectible example of gucci’s refined decorative production from the late 20th century. Signed “gucci made in italy” underneath the foot, it combines playful subject matter with the weight, quality and presence of a true luxury object. The penguin is beautifully modeled with a proud, upright posture and a slightly forward gaze, giving the piece a charming yet sculptural personality. Its silhouette is elegant and compact, with a rounded body, elongated beak, finely shaped feet and wings gently integrated into the form. Despite its decorative function, the object has the strength of a small sculpture. What makes this piece particularly special is the entirely worked surface. The body is richly hand-engraved with dense, flowing lines that follow the natural direction of feathers, creating a deep tactile texture throughout. The incised decoration catches the light beautifully, alternating between bright silver reflections and darker oxidized grooves. The result is extremely expressive: the penguin appears almost alive, with a surface that changes continuously depending on the light and angle. The close-up images reveal the quality of the workmanship: the feather texture is not simply decorative, but carefully sculpted into the metal, giving depth and movement to the entire figure. The beak and facial details are smoother and more polished, creating a refined contrast with the more textured body. The eye, head and neck are particularly well rendered, with a strong graphic presence. A small loss to the silver-plated finish is visible near the eye/beak area, as shown in the photos. This reveals the warm brass-colored metal underneath and confirms the plated nature of the piece. The imperfection is small and does not compromise the overall beauty or presence of the object; rather, it is consistent with age and use and is clearly documented in the images. With its 28 cm height, 20 cm depth and almost 3 kg weight, this is not a small tabletop accessory but a substantial decorative object with real presence. It feels luxurious, unusual and increasingly hard to find — the kind of gucci collector’s piece that works beautifully in a library, on a console, on a desk, or within a curated cabinet of curiosities. An incredible vintage discovery, rare on the market today, and a wonderful object for collectors of gucci, italian luxury design, animal sculptures and refined decorative arts. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
