Late 19th to early 20th century French oil on wood panel depicting a young woman and child seated beside a tranquil riverside landscape, presented in an ornate gilt composition frame. The 5” x 7” painting closely follows the composition of François-Alfred Delobbe’s celebrated Le Goûter Après le Bain, making it an attractive period interpretation of the French Academic master’s work.
Executed in oil on panel with delicate brushwork and a soft, natural palette, the painting exemplifies the sentimental genre scenes that were popular during the late 19th century. The work is unsigned and is offered as a hand-painted period painting after Delobbe rather than as an original work by the artist.
The richly ornamented gilt composition frame is believed to be period and complements the painting beautifully. The frame shows age-appropriate wear, including scattered rubbing and minor losses to the gilt finish, consistent with its age. The painting itself presents well.
A charming antique decorative work that would complement French Country, Victorian, Traditional, or European-inspired interiors.

The oil painting presents well with stable paint and no apparent repairs or significant paint loss observed. Minor surface wear, scattered specks, and light craquelure or age-related texture are present, consistent with a late 19th to early 20th century work. The ornate gilt composition frame exhibits age-appropriate wear, including scattered rubbing to the gilt finish, chips and losses to the composition ornament, most notably at the lower left corner and several decorative openings. The frame remains structurally sound and displays beautifully despite these imperfections. The reverse shows expected age-related wear, oxidation, and handling marks. The painting retains an older backing and hanging hardware. less
