Carmelitano (1935–2003), a listed American-Spanish artist whose work appears regularly at auction houses nationwide. This 50” x 40” canvas depicts a quiet fishing village at the water’s edge — warm red and yellow rooftops rising out of a hazy, atmospheric ochre-and-sage sky, with ship masts and rippled reflections built up in thick, expressive palette-knife impasto. The scale and texture give this piece incredible presence in person. Signed lower right.

Carmelitano studied at the Art Students League, NYU, and Pratt Institute, and spent over two decades exhibiting throughout Spain — Madrid, Seville, Zaragoza — before returning to the U.S. His paintings are held by collectors of 20th-century American-Spanish abstract and impressionist art.
