Roméo Charles Aglietti (November 1878 – April 1956) was a French Orientalist painter. He was the founder of the Artistic Union of North Africa and member of the Society of French Artists of North Africa.

Romeo Aglietti came from a family of Italian artists.

In Algiers, Romeo Aglietti as a solitary child, took refuge in drawing. It was in the company of Luca Armanie, a painter, that he discovered painting in the studio of Gustavo Simoni, an Italian painter living in Tlemcen and Rome. It was in the company of Gustavo Simoni's eldest son, Paolo, that he continued his apprenticeship in the Florentine School.

In 1898, he studied at the School of Decorative Arts at the Beaux-Arts de Paris, where he was a pupil of Georges-Antoine Rochegrosse. He continued his studies in Paris under the tutelage of Abbé Perfetini. In 1902, he was at the École supérieure des beaux-arts in Algiers

In 1904, he married Julie Anglade in Tunis and then, from 1905 to 1906, he went on a study trip with his young wife to Egypt, first in Cairo and then in Alexandria. After the birth of their first child, they returned to Paris in 1907 and then to Algiers in 1909. In 1910, Roméo Aglietti settled on the heights of Algiers, in the Victor Village, on the hill, near the Notre-Dame-d'Afrique basilica. from the painter's studio, the view dominates the sea. In his Moorish-style villa, Aglietti received his friends, artists and patrons.

In 1920, his trip to Spain became an important step in his career. Going to Madrid and then to Andalusia via Cadiz, Granada and Seville, he was fascinated by the Alhambra Palace.

On his return, he exhibited for the first time in 1923 in the city of Oran and then, in 1924, in Algiers. In French Algeria, Aglietti frequented the artists and men of letters Robert Randau, Jean Pomier, Marcello Fabri and de Pouvreau Baldy. Because of his well-established relationship with the governor general of Algeria, Maurice Viollette, it was on his initiative that he had the idea of founding an artistic group in 1924.
