An iconic modular executive desk designed by Bruce Burdick for Herman Miller, circa 1980s. This sophisticated workstation is part of Burdick’s celebrated office system, known for its highly engineered structure and forward-thinking approach to modern work environments.
The desk features a dynamic, architectural layout with a central rectangular glass top flanked by two semi-circular return surfaces, creating a generous work surface configuration. The thick, beveled glass appears to float above a precision aluminum rail system, supported by black enameled steel uprights and sculptural cast aluminum legs. Integrated drawer units suspended to each side, offering ample storage while maintaining the system’s clean, minimal aesthetic.
Burdick’s design is a masterclass in late 20th-century office innovation—combining flexibility, ergonomics, and a distinctly high-tech visual language that remains timeless.
Photographed with Eames office chair and Herman Miller binder for scale.
