The composition is among the most beloved images of the Dutch Golden Age: a stately passage boat crowded with figures rides at anchor in the foreground, the Dutch tricolor streaming from its mast, while a fleet of sailing vessels recedes toward the spires of Dordrecht. Above it all, Cuyp's signature golden light — the warm, honeyed atmosphere that made him the most sought-after Dutch painter among English collectors — breaks through towering clouds.
This vintage copy was executed by an academically trained hand: the reverse bears a hand-inked inscription in Cyrillic identifying the work as a copy after "Albert Cuyp, 'The Maas at Dordrecht'" — pointing to the rigorous master-copy tradition of Eastern European art academies.
