The original composition dates to July 1673, painted just as the Van de Veldes entered the service of Charles II at Greenwich, where father and son transformed marine painting in Britain and inspired generations of artists, J.M.W. Turner among them. Van de Velde the Younger remains the benchmark of marine painting — ships rendered with near-documentary accuracy, seas alive with weather and light.

Sourced in France on one of our own buying trips. The reverse bears the hand-lettered inscription "D'après Van de Velde the Younger — Yacht 'Cleveland' — July 1673," along with the stamp of Galerie Anderson-Mayer — the Paris gallery founded in 1962 by New York gallerist David K. Anderson — and gallery inventory number AOK-739, documenting the painting's passage through the postwar Paris art trade.

Mid-20th century, presented in an ornate gilt frame with beaded and fluted detail. Royal history, Golden Age composition, and French provenance in a single canvas — a striking anchor for a study, library, gallery wall, or collected coastal interior. See less
