He is a "plein air" , on site painter who is completely inspired by the quiet coastal scenery of that beautiful town. He pays attention to the structure and direction of his brush strokes, and paints using thick paint in the manner of past masters he admires, such as William Wendt and William F. Reese.
He loves to take risks while creating a painting, always going for the dramatic payoff of capturing the light or slow moving clouds with just a few strokes of the brush. He says, " I love that the light might do something wild late in the process- and I try to catch it in real time at the end". This idea of changing the painting completely, at the last minute, to allow for some "magic" to happen, is veery risky. I like his work because of his willingness to "go for it". See less
