This is a late 19th/early 20th century mahogany stool of elegant proportions. The intricate, subtle foliage carvings on the legs and apron suggest a late 19th century Victorian or early 20th century French-inspired design. It is made of high-quality mahogany, and refinished in a rich, and warm dark tone; the color and patina enhance the depth and movement of the carving. The stool features finely shaped tapered cabriole legs and decorative upholstery brass tacks along the seat edges, making the piece visually compelling from every angle. The seat is upholstered with needlework wool, which I believe may be original to the stool, however, it is not in good condition (see pictures). The stool itself is structurally sound and therefore, fit for purpose, as well as being lovely to look at.
This stool’s graceful lines and practical use, making it ideal as a dressing stool, bedroom seat, piano seat, or occasional piece within both traditional and contemporary interiors and for designers seeking contrast and character. See less
