Beautiful and colorful late 19th Century Caucasian Karabagh area rug. Karabagh rugs, from the Caucasus region, are celebrated for their artistic and free-flowing designs, often incorporating a vibrant blend of geometric and floral motifs. This rug features a geometric design with a series of medallions, gracefully arranged across a beautiful abrash turquoise blue/green color field. The natural tonal variations in the abrash dyeing process give the field a profound depth and a charming sense of "passed time and patina." The medallions themselves are rendered in harmonious shades of deep blue, earthy brown, and luminous yellow, adding intricate detail and visual interest.
The entire composition is framed by a beautiful, rich cranberry red primary border, which is adorned with its own intricate geometric designs in red, blue, yellow, and green. This striking border is flanked on one side by a pale yellow minor border and on the other side by a beautiful green minor border, creating a sophisticated layered effect.
