A striking Northern European neoclassical mirror dating to the second half of the 18th century. Crafted in carved wood with a warm, time-softened bronzed finish, the architectural frame features a classical Greek key or meander border, delicate beaded molding, and carved laurel festoons.
An elaborate openwork crest crowns the mirror, centered by a ribbon-tied laurel wreath and framed by sweeping foliate ornament. The symmetrical decoration and restrained classical vocabulary reflect the influence of late-18th-century Louis XVI and Northern European neoclassical design.
The mirror retains a beautifully aged surface with visible wear, small losses, and centuries of character. The mirror glass is a later replacement. Its generous vertical proportions make it an elegant statement above a console, chest, mantel, or dressing table.
