A striking vintage Brazilian Modern lounge chair manufactured by Italma of Brazil. The chair exhibits many of the qualities that have made Brazilian modern furniture highly sought after by collectors and designers, including sculptural hardwood construction, exposed joinery, and traditional woven cord suspension.
Crafted from solid hardwood with a rich reddish-brown finish, the frame showcases bold architectural lines and exceptional craftsmanship. The chair retains its original hand-woven suspension system, which provides support beneath newly upholstered cream bouclé seat and back cushions. The contrast between the warm wood tones and textured upholstery gives the piece a timeless, sophisticated presence.
The design exhibits elements associated with the Brazilian Modern movement and bears similarities to work produced by Jean Gillon and contemporaries of the period.
It lived part of its splendid life in the beautiful Brooklyn Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York.
