This substantial chess set features a beautifully constructed checkerboard of contrasting hardwoods lined in original red felt beneath the playing surface. Every chess piece has been individually hand turned on a lathe, giving the set warmth and personality that simply cannot be replicated by mass production.

One of the most charming features is the interpretation of the knight. Rather than the traditional carved horse, the maker created a simplified abstract form, likely reflecting the tools and methods available to the craftsman.
