A two-arm industrial machine lamp by philips, made in the netherlands, mounted on a brake disc base. An original vintage workshop piece.
philips was founded in eindhoven in 1891 and grew into one of the defining names of dutch industry, known first for lighting and later for electronics of every kind. Alongside its consumer products, philips made rugged task and machine lamps of the sort installed over lathes and workbenches in the factories of mid-century holland, philips' own works among them.
this is one of those lamps, built to throw light precisely onto a machine and to hold its position through a working day.
the lamp has two arms joined by a ball joint, allowing the head to be set at a wide range of angles and directions, and it is mounted here on a brake disc, which gives it a heavy, stable base and a distinctive industrial character. The shade is finished in black. It has been rewired for safe contemporary use, fitted with a new switch and fully checked, and takes a standard e27 fitting with a bulb included. It works as a substantial desk or table lamp.
