A model 110 scissor wall lamp designed by h. Th. J. A. Busquet for hala zeist, the netherlands, in white. An original vintage piece from the 1960s.
hala, based in zeist, is widely regarded as one of the earliest lighting manufacturers in the netherlands. From around 1932 its design was led by the dutch modernist h. Th. J. A. Busquet (1914 to 1977), whose reductionist, function-led work drew on bauhaus and de stijl principles. The scissor wall lamp was among his designs, first conceived as a bauhaus lamp in the 1930s and produced by hala for decades afterward with revisions to the shade.
this example dates from the 1960s.
the scissor mechanism extends and retracts across a wide range, and the shade pivots, so the light can be positioned precisely over a desk, a reading chair or a work surface and folded flat against the wall when not in use. The shade is white with a white interior, and the original hala label remains visible. The lamp has been rewired and checked, with the switch on the plug, and mounts to the wall with four fixings.
this is a single, original vintage piece. The weathered patina and signs of wear are consistent with its age and confirm its authenticity.
