This is the low shade version, with a shallower, more compact profile than the standard hdk pendant.

philips, founded in eindhoven in 1891, produced the hdk series as industrial lighting for factories across the netherlands. The form is among the most recognizable of mid-century dutch factory lighting: an enamel shade engineered to direct light downward over a work surface, paired with a cast aluminum top housing.

the white enamel interior reflects and softens the light, which makes the design as suitable above a dining table or kitchen island today as it was over a factory floor. The lower, wider shade on this version gives a broader spread of light and a more grounded proportion, well suited to hanging at a closer height over a counter or table.

the cast aluminum top has been sandblasted for renovation. Each light has been rewired to an e27 socket with approximately 2 m of cord, ready for hardwiring. No switch or plug is fitted.
several examples are available. As original vintage objects, each carries its own patina and signs of age, so there may be minor differences in condition and tone between individual pieces, which makes them well suited to a series installation.
