An exceptional one-of-a-kind sculptural wood vessel by American Studio Craft artist David Zimmerman, signed and dated 2004.
Handcrafted in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, this monumental sculpture exemplifies Zimmerman's signature exploration of movement, negative space, and architectural form. Constructed from laminated hardwood and plywood with an exposed rib structure, the piece blurs the boundary between sculpture and vessel, revealing a dramatically different silhouette from every viewpoint.
Rather than concealing its construction, the laminated rings and structural framework become an integral part of the composition, creating a rhythmic interplay of light, shadow, and organic geometry. The result is a sculptural form that feels both architectural and naturally evolved.
Zimmerman's work has been exhibited in galleries and museums, including the Lancaster Museum of Art, and has been featured in publications such as The New York Times and House Beautiful. His sculptural vessels are held in private collections and are sought after by collectors of American Studio Craft and contemporary wood sculpture.
This example was acquired from a Bay Area architect's private collection and remains a striking statement piece suitable for residential, commercial, or gallery settings.

Condition
Very good vintage condition with an attractive natural patina. The sculpture presents beautifully overall. A few laminated sections exhibit minor movement consistent with age, and there is visible adhesive residue in select areas. It is unknown whether the adhesive is original to the artist's construction process or from a later conservation or repair. The sculpture remains structurally sound and displays exceptionally well.
