Guadeloupe table lamp, made by Maison Charles in France around 1970.
Resting on a cream lacquered metal base, it features a brass stem adorned with a sculptural composition of three large, finely ribbed, patinated bronze leaves. The rectangular fabric shade highlights the contrast between the organic forms of the decoration and the structure's rigor, in a balance characteristic of the house's creations.
Founded in Paris in 1908, Maison Charles, under the leadership of Jacques and Jean Charles, became a leading name in French decorative lighting during the second half of the 20th century, with its designs inspired by the plant world and crafted from fine materials such as bronze and brass.
