Abandoning traditional canvas, the anonymous artist chose a heavy, industrial melamine-faced chipboard (84 x 64 cm) as the support. The raw, exposed chipboard core along the edges beautifully documents the creative process, where fluid paint naturally settled during a horizontal, tabletop execution. The surface is sealed with a razor-thin, rock-hard clear topcoat (resembling a professional 2K polyurethane lacquer). This high-gloss finish provides an ultra-clean, scratch-resistant sheen while perfectly preserving the underlying physical texture and direction of the brush strokes.

Composition & Artistic Adaptation:

Rather than executing a mechanical copy, the artist made deliberate design choices to adapt Warhol's square composition to this rectangular panel. Close inspection reveals fascinating "pentimenti" (underlying adjustments), most notably at the lower jawline. The artist originally drafted a full chin, but later overpainted it with grey background tones to merge the chin into the high black turtleneck. This deliberate choice stabilizes the vertical composition and anchors the floating faces. Furthermore, the vibrant red color field extends deeper across the right side of the face than in the original, maintaining a precise color balance against the narrow proportions of the board.

Layering & Technique:

The face is built directly onto the panel layer by layer, with visible brush texture throughout. The grey and red backgrounds were applied first, followed by swift, bold black brushwork creating the shadows, eyes, and hair. A dry-brush technique leaves the red underlayer partially visible, adding texture and motion. The final, decisive steps were the white highlights added to the pupils, providing the portrait with its piercing, lifelike gaze.
