The “Sigma” wall lamp in nickel-plated brass and pressed glass, designed by Sergio Mazza in the 1960s for Artemide. The lamp features a clean, sculptural circular structure made of nickel-plated brass, whilst the diffuser is crafted from ribbed glass with an intricate radial pattern. This radiating pattern emanates from a solid central circle, creating a fascinating interplay of light and shadow when the lamp is switched on. Sergio Mazza (born in Milan in 1931) is a key figure in post-war Italian lighting design. In 1960, he co-founded Artemide with Ernesto Gismondi, with the aim of producing lamps that combined technical innovation with timeless aesthetics. This lamp is a perfect example of his philosophy: it combines the robust craftsmanship of brass with a sophisticated manipulation of glass to control the light.
