A charming vintage majolica-style wall pocket, hand-molded and glazed to resemble a woven basket overflowing with grape leaves and clusters of grapes in green and deep cobalt blue. The twisted, branch-form handle adds to the naturalistic, trompe l'oeil style majolica is known for.
Rich, glossy glazes in green, brown, and blue pool beautifully into the deep relief molding — a hallmark of traditional hand-applied majolica glazing. The reverse shows the soft cream-colored earthenware body with attractive all-over crazing consistent with age. The number “4” on reverse was likely a decorator's or size/pattern number.
Would make a lovely addition to a kitchen, sunroom, or anywhere you love vintage botanical charm. A wonderful piece for majolica collectors or anyone drawn to pottery with real character and history.
