"High-Fly," a striking abstract expressionist work by California artist Sylvia Jorjorian. Executed in a mixed media blend of oil and acrylic, the dynamic composition features bold, oceanic turquoise fields energized by a vivid red and yellow central burst.
The artwork is signed lower right and fully inscribed on the back with the artist's name, Sacramento address, medium, and the piece's title, "High-Fly." Housed in its original retro presentation featuring an olive-green matboard and a silver-finished wood frame, this piece offers an authentic touch of mid-to-late 20th-century character perfect for modern, eclectic, or transitional interiors.
Sylvia Jorjorian (1914–2012) was an acclaimed figure in the Northern California mid-century art scene. Born in Istanbul, Turkey, she immigrated to California in 1944. While studying at Sacramento State, she began entering juried competitions and exhibiting her vibrant paintings in local galleries. Throughout the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, Jorjorian was an active and celebrated force in the Sacramento arts community. She won numerous awards at the California State Fair and the Crocker Art Gallery’s prestigious Kingsley Exhibitions, with the Crocker Art Museum highlighting her work in a prominent "Three-Women Show" in the mid-1960s.
Sourced from the private collection of Eve Paige Spencer and Donner Spencer, a California couple whose creative lives spanned enamel art, published writing, and decades of collecting. Jorjorian's vivid, energetic abstraction was a natural fit for a household surrounded by working artists.

The original vintage silver-finished wood frame shows significant, honest age-related wear consistent with its period. There is notable chipping, silver finish loss, and exposed wood along the outer perimeter and edges, which is meticulously documented in the close-up listing photos. The olive-green matting remains intact. The piece can be displayed as-is for an authentic, aged gallery look, or reframed to match a specific interior aesthetic. Frame with original glass less
