A breathtaking masterwork of large-scale mid-century American sculpture, "Bristling" is a monumental 1975 abstract aluminum public-scale installation by noted sculptor and university professor Herbert Simon. Spanning a massive 4.5-foot cubic footprint (54" H x 54" W x 54" D), this investment-grade architectural sculpture commandingly bridges industrial structural forms with brilliant abstract geometry. Constructively assembled from heavy-gauge industrial aluminum sheets bound by heavy metal rivets, the composition utilizes interlocking geometric blades and jagged, vertical structural wings to manipulate ambient room light and space from every angle. The hand-burnished surfaces bounce soft light while casting deep, structural shadows that shift with the viewer's perspective. It has incredible physical presence and is highly durable, making it an elite freestanding statement piece for an expansive luxury minimalist atrium, an executive corporate entryway, or a central exterior landscape terrace. Signed on bottom by the artist.
About The Herbert Simon Studio Archive:This piece belongs to an exclusive, single-provenance acquisition sourced directly from the private estate and studio archive of celebrated American sculptor and university professor Herbert Simon (1927–2017). A student of abstract expressionist titans Hans Hofmann, Robert Motherwell, and Philip Guston, Simon served as a professor at Wilkes University for over 20 years, where his work bridged the gap between the New York School and academic structuralism. His monumental public commissions are permanently installed at major regional landmarks, including the 'Facets' aluminum installation at Wilkes University, the 'Aloft' sculpture at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, and civic plazas across Pennsylvania. Spanning over fifty years of creative evolution, this collection represents a rare opportunity to acquire investment-grade art with institutional provenance.
