This exceptional late-19th century Persian Feraghan is an outstanding example of the finest weaving produced in the Feraghan district during the golden age of Persian carpet making. Woven circa 1870, the rug displays an elegant all-over lattice of flowering vines, palmettes, and stylized botanical motifs set against a rich midnight navy field. The design is perfectly balanced, creating remarkable visual harmony while allowing every finely drawn blossom and vine to be appreciated.
The luminous ivory border beautifully frames the composition with delicately rendered floral vinery, creating a striking contrast against the deep indigo field. The color palette consists entirely of rich natural vegetable dyes, including deep indigo, madder red, ivory, soft camel, olive, and muted sky blue, all of which have developed the beautiful mellow patina that collectors seek in early Feraghan carpets.
The weave is extraordinarily fine for a village rug of this period, with tightly packed knots and a closely clipped pile that allows every intricate detail of the drawing to stand out with exceptional clarity. The wool possesses the silky texture and natural sheen characteristic of the finest nineteenth-century Persian production. Feraghan rugs from this era are especially admired for their refined craftsmanship, artistic originality, and exceptional durability, making them among the most desirable antique Persian carpets.
