Part of the generation that introduced modernism to the Kempen, Schellekens approached painting in close relation to his architectural practice. His paintings can be read as extensions of his architectural ideas, shaped by Bauhaus principles, geometric order and the influence of Oskar Schlemmer.
Executed in oil on canvas, with an architectural composition built from simplified figures, strong vertical accents and a concentrated palette of deep blue, ochre, black and off-white. Signed lower right and dated 1958. Preserved in beautiful original condition and newly presented in a minimal floating wood frame. A rare example of post-war Belgian art connected directly to Belgium's modernist architectural heritage.

Jozef Schellekens (1909–1963) was a Belgian modernist architect, artist and writer from Turnhout. He belonged to the same generation as Renaat Braem and Léon Stynen, whose work helped define Belgian interwar modernism. In 1937, he was appointed provincial architect for the district of Turnhout.
Schellekens is known for his integrated interiors and for the modernist house he designed for himself in Turnhout, conceived as a total environment where architecture, furniture and art came together. This influence continued through his son Paul Schellekens, who was part of the 'Turnhoutse School', a late modernist movement in Belgium. This piece has an attribution mark,
