Dated to the late 19th century, the antique vessel is potted to a narrow, tapered shape and decorated in low relief with geometric patterns and floral medallions. Originally used for pickling and fermentation, the large jar is ideal today as a one-of-a-kind planter for houseplants or garden foliage.

Each of the large medallions frames a flower of the four seasons - peonies for spring, lotus for summer, chrysanthemum for autumn and plum blossoms for winter. The rim is bordered with an array of textured patterns, including a scalloped ruffle, studded dots and ruyi-form lappets stamped with characters. The large pot is finished in a freeform brown glaze with subtle iridescence and allover crazing. See less
