The Sculpture
• After Marius-Jean-Antonin Mercié (French, 1845–1916).
• Subject: David Vainqueur (David the Victor).
• Medium: Cast bronze with a rich, multi-toned brown and dark patination.
• Composition: A full-length figural sculpture depicting the biblical youth David in a classic contrapposto stance. The figure is shown sheathing his longsword, with his right foot resting triumphantly upon the severed head of the giant Goliath.
