This painting clearly recalls the work of important Baroque masters. Mary Magdalene is portrayed in ecstasy, her gaze turned heavenward, expressing detachment from all that is earthly, penitence, and profound devotion. She is depicted with her chest exposed and a necklace with a teardrop pearl, elements that symbolize the transition and the stripping away of earthly vanities in favor of a spiritual life of devotion. The dramatic tones and use of chiaroscuro reveal a profound Caravaggesque influence, typical of the masters active in Tuscany in the 17th century.
